The ladies will be looking to continue their winning streak at home.
The Ladies haven’t stepped foot on the Garenne Stand pitch since their memorable win over Jersey at the 2024 Spring Insure Siam Cup, where they brought the Siam Cup home in the final few minutes of the game. The Ladies' only game at home this season was against Dorking on the Club Pitch, with an exceptionally close 33-31 game, so it’s set to be an exciting day as they take on Crawley at home.
The Ladies have selected a squad of 22 to face Crawley, including some well known faces to Ladies Rugby such as Daisy Travers, Kayleigh Oliver and Janelly Casas Zarate. Some newer faces also make an appearance including Lauren Ogier, Elle Murphy and Cara Fitzpatrick.
It follows the Ladies 5-21 victory over East Grinstead earlier this month. Conditions were tough, and it was a challenging day for the ladies, but they were able to string together some really good sequences of attack, as well as some really strong defence.
Head Coach, Steve Evans, “This week has not been easy for selection, we have lots of players available and there are some exceptionally close decisions as to who would make the squad for Sunday.
But competition for places is a good thing for the long term, and we’re lucky to be in a place when selection is coming into play. We’ve travelled to games before with only 15/16 players, so to be able to have almost 30 players available, it’s a testament to the growth of the women’s game.”
Crawley sit with 8 points in the league, having played two games. Closely behind the Ladies who have 14 points after 3 games. Crawley are on the hunt for their first win, after some mixed results this season. They lost 19-43 to Seaford, who are now top of the league, and 0-56 to Dorking who Guernsey know are a strong team after their home fixture against them.. They’ve also had close games 29-7 to East Grinstead and 27-12 to Worthing.
Steve added: “You can never count teams out of these leagues, last season we had a mixed bag of results, and there were some teams who expected to be able to have big wins over us, and we held them off. Crawley will be coming here for a big game, and we need to be prepared for that.”
The ladies take on Crawley at 1pm on Sunday 15th December.
