It was the perfect start to the season for the Guernsey Raiders Ladies on Sunday at Worthing RFC.

It was the perfect start to the season for the Guernsey Raiders Ladies on Sunday at Worthing RFC.

The ladies came away with a 0-66 victory on the road, their highest victory in the past few seasons. The ladies showed strong periods of attack, with strong phases linking together to result in the team bringing home 10 tries.

But it wasn't just the attack that was strong, the ladies were able to defend very well, keeping worthing out of their half for the majority of the game. The ladies applied pressure on Worthing meaning they were able to frequently turn the ball over.

Head coach, Steve Evans, was pleased with the result.

'It proves the hard work that we've put in over a very long pre-season has well and truly paid off.'

'It wasn't an easy game, Worthing put up a good fight, but the ladies were able to keep their form and fought hard until the last moment.'

Guernsey's 8, Aideen Le Prevost, scored 4 of the 10 Guernsey tries, with an excellent performance throughout the game. Scrum Half, Ness Brown, also put Worthing to the test as she was able to out run the opposition leading to three tries.

Alongside the 10 tries, Guernsey had 8 successful conversions from full-back Liv Kenneally.

Guernsey's new forward to the pack, Yvie Coyde, made some impressive breaks, resulting in a try and her receiving forward of the match. Similarly, Guernsey back of the match, went to centre Molly Farrell who has just joined the backs from the forwards.

Sunday saw 4 debuts for the Guernsey Raiders Ladies: Sophie Knight, Cara Fitzpatrick and sisters Elle Murphy and Lauren Ogier. It's the first time the ladies have had 3 siblings playing in the same team, with Kristi Murphy having persuaded her sisters to join after she's played for the Ladies for 2 seasons. Lauren Ogier had a day to remember, as she scored a try in her debut.

We also saw the return of Daisy Travers, after a knee injury saw her be forced to pull out of the 2024 Siam Squad. After a long period of recovery, Travers came off the bench against Worthing, bringing her incredible knowledge and fire to the game. The ladies would argue she has definitely been missed.

'It's fantastic to have this many new players in the squad, although you wouldn't have been able to tell this was their first game from the performance today' added Evans.

'We've had a number of other new players join us as well this season, and I'm looking forward to seeing them all making their debuts over the next few weeks.'
