Raiders intend to give the Hawks their full attention tomorrow – but they also have one eye on next week’s Siam Cup.

There is a big boost for Guernsey as they welcome back Anthony Armstrong on the wing to face Henley, but director of rugby Jordan Reynolds did reveal that there were a few knocks picked up last week at Esher that have played a role in his team selection for the final home game of the National Two East campaign.

‘It is a bit of a funny one because no doubt we have not performed great in the last couple of games, but in fairness the squad we took to Esher was reflective of the fact that we rested about 40% of our regular squad and in the last 30 minutes of that game we rested another few with one eye on the Siam,’ he said of the juggling act Raiders have been trying to pull off in a busy end-of-season schedule.

‘So there were some big changes last week, but there was still some good rugby played.

‘We want one last push against Henley because if we win and the two teams directly above us lose – and the likelihood is they could – we could climb to eighth, which would be our highest-ever finish.

‘It might be a slim chance, but if we were to finish eighth and if you think about where we were coming into Christmas, it would be a pretty exceptional effort.’

The two sides met on the opening day of the season when Henley started strongly before holding off a Raiders fightback to win 43-33.

‘It is important we are connected defensively, push off the line and bring energy to the game,’ Reynolds said.

Raiders against Henley kicks off at 3pm Saturday at Footes Lane.
