HORROCKS MOVES INTO CENTRES
As the Raiders injury crisis deepens - that’s now 14 out - Jordan Reynolds announced he was patching up the centres by moving Douglas Horrocks into the 12 shirt.
Reynolds laughs at the suggestion that it was case of beefing up the centres.
It’s just that we have got no one left,’ he said ahead of Thursday night training.
‘Dougie played 12 for us against Doncaster and played quite well, so we’ll have to see how it pans out.’
Part of the reason for the Horrocks move is confirmation that Anthony Armstrong’s dislocated shoulder means he is out until after the New Year.
Not good, especially for the young man who had appeared to have put behind him his long standing shouder problems with a brilliant season last campaign.
And on top of that new wing Daley Aremu has done damage to his big toe and will be out for a few weeks yet.
However, there is some good news with scrum half Owen Clemmet returning to fitness and earning a place on the bench this weekend. Luke Jones remains out for a while yet, but at least has gingerly started training again.
With Horrocks moving into midfield to cover for injuries and the unavailability of Jason Batiste, young Matt Creber comes into the back row in the sole change to the starting pack from last week.
The back three is all changed, with Taylor Quate moving to fullback while the hugely versatile Dale Martin starts on one wing and Chris Ahne on the other.
Raiders are familiar with Bury St Edmunds having played against them for a couple of season in London & SE Premier as recently as three years ago.
But they too have undergone a big change of personnel.
‘They have started well this year and last week they beat Old Albanian, who we lost to in our first game,’ said the coach.
‘They have a pretty big and mobile pack and some decent backs including a centre who was on trial with Doncaster Knights when we were up there.’
