DOUBLE HEADER SATURDAY!
Playing for the full 80 minutes is head coach Jordan Reynolds’ objective as his beat-up team welcome Old Redcliffians to Footes Lane for the first time on Saturday.
And while Old Reds may well have won the home clash against Raiders with a lot to spare, Reynolds and his men may well sense this is a good opportunity as any to chalk up a rare and welcome win.
‘We haven’t had many wins and for that we have only got ourselves to blame as we haven’t been putting in enough 80min. shifts,’ said the coach.
‘But we will have to be at our best. There was a massive scoreline against us last time and it would be good to be able to put in a much stronger effort at home,’ he added while surveying more injuries.
Matt Thomas picked up a hamstring injury at training on Tuesday and joined the already long list of absentees which, of course, now includes full-back Anthony Armstrong after his own torn hamstring setback last weekend.
On the plus side we are able to recall old warhorses Blair Campbell and Luke Sayer, the latter having not played since the initial Old Reds clash back in November.
The visitors arrive off the back of three straight defeats, but Reynolds expects them to be strong in the scrum.
‘They are a strong outfit, big and fast, and have got some quality outside backs.’
He even sees similarities with Raiders, although the injury lists might not be anywhere comparable.
The game kicks off at 2pm tomorrow at Footes Lane and will be followed by St Jacques Vikings and Barns Green at 4pm.
With it being the annual Ladies Day at the Club and the 6 Nations action on the big screen, too, it promises to be a big and very busy day of rugby at the Garenne Stand.
