STILL PLENTY TO PLAY FOR
Two sides with supposedly nothing much to play for go head to head at Footes Lane tomorrow evening.
Don’t you believe it.
Jordan Reynolds certainly doesn’t, although with relegation now confirmed he says that selections are being made with all eyes on the big one in Jersey on 11 May.
Reynolds laughed at the mere suggestion that it was a dead rubber.
‘Absolutely not.’
‘There is a a lot we can get out of it and we want to work on some combinations ahead of Siam,’ he said.
Taunton, who lie fifth in the table, fairly thrashed us - 60-14 - at their place back in December, so naturally the Raiders coach is hoping for some form of pay back in front of what should be another big Garenne Stand crowd. In order to do so his side will need to ensure they stay switched on for the full 80 minutes, something they have struggled with all season.
‘I think they (Taunton) will come to enjoy the occasion and we want to get some sort of revenge for what happened at their place.’
Teamwise, Reynolds rests Owen Thomas and Tom Ceillam, while confirming that Anthony Armstrong could have played at a push.
Sensibly, though, the management thought it best to give him another fortnight to recover from his hamstring injury and give him a run out against Old Albanians ahead of the Siam.
‘Anthony will be back for sure.
‘He has done three training sessions with us already.’
For now, Elia Morisio switches to full back.
‘Without Anthony we are short of a full back and Elia is the one that has played there before,’ said the coach who keeps a largely unchanged pack while bringing back Chris Ahne on the wing and Jason Batiste and Jim Elliott into the centres.
The game kicks off at 5.30pm.
Free entry for members and U16. £9 entry for non-members.
